Restaurant sansaro and sansaro art box

The sansaro art box is an exhibition concept designed to promote art and culture, created by SUSHIYA GmbH, which operates the Japanese restaurant sansaro in the Amalienpassage. As a display case visible from all sides in a public space—directly adjacent to the restaurant—the art box offers artists an extraordinary exhibition space for contemporary art, creating visibility and opening up new perspectives.

With changing exhibitions every two months, the art box ensures diversity and freshness, provides artistic inspiration, and encourages dialogue. The complex structure demands well-thought-out presentation concepts that engage with the form of the display case—whether through inclusion, contrast, or deliberate integration into the installation. Works that are conceptually strong and formally compelling are particularly sought after; these should foster a dialogue between the artwork, the space, and the public, as well as engage with the project space’s extraordinary architecture—for here, artistic freedom meets spatial challenge.

The project primarily features sculptures and installation art, with paintings being less common.
